WHO
Watershed is about two people: Jesus Christ and You.
There are people who have prayed to start Watershed. There are personalities who teach, and lead, and serve, and help throughout the week. There are individuals who were given a vision by God, met others with the same vision, and became a team to start this movement. But Watershed is not about them.
Watershed is about Jesus Christ. Without Jesus, Watershed doesn't exist. In Ezekiel 47:1-12, the river that brings life, the river that is a watershed for so many people, is Jesus Christ. Without him, there truly would be no life, no meaning, and definitely no Watershed. So first and foremost, this movement gains its momentum from Him.
But Watershed is also about you. Watershed was intentionally designed for young adults to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ. If you are just standing still in your spiritual journey, you are missing out. Watershed has been prayerfully started with the passion to see you, a Cedar Rapids young adult, grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus Christ, no matter where you are in that journey. We want to see you develop your relationship with God, with others, with yourself, and with the world.
So that is why you won’t find any “staff” pictures on this page with silly Q&A bio’s. This movement called Watershed is not about them. It’s about Him. And it’s about you getting connected to Him.
WHERE/WHEN
Watershed is not a church with it’s own building. So that means we are occasionally on the move. For the large group worship gatherings, we assemble together to be immersed in song, Scripture, and prayer on Thursday nights (except Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas) at 7:30 p.m. We are currently holding our worship immersions at Maranatha Bible Church.
Childcare (ages 0-7) is available for single parents and young married couples.
WHY
The purpose of Watershed is to lead young adults in the Cedar Rapids area deeper in their spiritual journey with Jesus Christ.
We desire to see young adults from many different churches growing in their faith so that they will be the leaders their churches need. We also long to see those who don’t attend church come to investigate the life-giving river, to see what this thing called “Christianity” is all about.
WHAT
More than meets the eye
On the surface, Watershed is a large group gathering of young adults who assemble together to worship God through guitar-driven music and to be challenged by biblical teaching. But Watershed isn’t just a happy-good-feel-time event. The heartbeat of Watershed is to see young adults grow in their relationships in four areas: with God, with each other, with themselves, and with the world.
To do just that, we strongly encourage everybody who chooses to attend Watershed’s Thursday night gathering to also immerse themself in a small group, whether that is through their church, their workplace, their college campus, or through Watershed itself. We also encourage people to be dispersed out from the large group and small group times into the community to serve and share their faith with their peers around them.
